treating neck pain with acupuncture

ABSTRACT

Female patient in her 30s resorted to acupuncture treatments due to the presence of neck pain (pain in the neck).

The patient was thin and had very bad posture so was advised to change certain postural habits and to do exercise like swimming to strengthen muscles.

During acupuncture consultation arose the suspicion of possible trigger points (trigger points) and because they had no relevance to the patient’s symptoms were not treated.

In all the patient received 3 acupuncture  treatments  over 1 month. At the end of this 3 acupuncture treatments patient had no symptoms.

tendonitis in Achilles tendon treated with acupuncture

ABSTRACT
Old male in his 50s turned to acupuncture consultations due to a possible tendonitis / bursitis Achilles tendon.
The claims emerged 10 months early and although some improvements he had suffered recurrence 5 months after the beginning of the complaints.
The selected treatment was acupuncture with local electrical stimulation (electric acupuncture). The patient responded very positively to treatment and at the end of 4 acupuncture session treatment was given terminated. At the third visit the patient had no symptoms.

treatment of nasal congestion and headache during pregnancy

ABSTRACT

Female patient resorted to acupuncture consultations due to the presence of nasal congestion symptoms, frontal headache and facial pain. The patient used acupuncture to avoid the intake of drugs because of her pregnancy.

Patient had medical history of sinusitis. A semiological analysis of the symptoms indicated the existence of a pattern of wind-damp-cold possibly worsening to a pattern of heat. Symptoms indicate a predominance of dampness compared to other patterns being the less significant cold. The treatment selected was acupuncture.

The patient had five acupuncture sessions in total. Over the five acupuncture treatments she experienced significant improvements in sneezing, almost total disappearance of frontal headache and facial pain, improve sleep patterns and improvements less prominent, but still clinically significant in the intensity and frequency of nasal congestion.

At the end of the 5th session, the patient stopped acupuncture treatment for personal reasons.

Pain in upper limbs treated with acupuncture

ABSTRACT

Female patient resorted to acupuncture consultations due to pain in her arms. The pain was very intense and had not responded to medical therapy. The pain came as a result of much effort made with crutcheswho was forced to use after knee surgery (during surgery, the patient reported the onset of pain).

Before acupuncture treatment the patient underwent a session of osteopathy with physiotherapist Ernesto Ferreira referring large improvements in pain relief. In symptomatic evaluation was noted: severe pain associated with major limitation of movements affecting equally the two upper limbs.

The patient had an extremely positive response to acupuncture treatment and was noticed an immediate improvement after the first acupuncture consultation with a significant decrease in pain and considerable increase in mobility. Following the first acupuncture treatment patient stopped taking painkillers.

In all, four acupuncture sessions were held in two weeks with one week interval, after which the patient reported improvement of almost 100% and the treatments were discontinued for personal reasons.

The treatment selected was acupuncture and the principle of acupoints selection consisted in funcional myology and secondarily of the nervous system.

Pain in pregnancy and baby breech

ABSTRACT
Female patient, 32 years, 32 weeks pregnant, has resorted to acupuncture consultations due to pain in the pelvis and baby breech (sitting).
It was not done traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment of choice was acupuncture and moxibustion. In the consultations (acupuncture treatments) was aplied acupuncture and the patient was taught to use moxa cone at home so she can apply every day.
The patient responded positively to treatment and at the end of three acupuncture sessions had no more pain and the baby has already been presented in the normal position.

In all, the patient had three acupuncture treatments.

Electric acupuncture in the treatment of lumbar pain

ABSTRACT

Male patient with 66-year-old resorted to acupuncture consultations due to the presence of low back pain. The back pain radiated by the right leg along the sciatic and sural nerves (bladder meridian).

The patient had previously noted the same complaints one year ago and successfully treated by physiotherapist Ernesto Ferreira at Office of Sports Physiotherapy.
The selected treatment for the patient was  electric acupuncture being used the eletrostimulation unit ES-160.

The patient responded positively to acupuncture treatments and needed a total of 11 treatments to the complete disapearence of complaints.

Initially, treatments were done on aweekly basis, after that between two weeks and finally with a range of one month.

Anxiety treated with acupuncture

ABSTRACT

Male patient with 28 years of age. The patient turned to acupuncture consultations due to the presence of anxiety. The patient refers to him as being very nervous and angry.

When the patient was angry his hands start´s shaking and  in the presence of anxiety will appeared  the very strong need, not always  controllable, of hair pulling.

The patient, during the semiological analysis, showed no symptoms that would allow one to conclude with certainty any clinical pattern. The acupuncture treatment principles were defined in order to calm the mind and intervene in more possible  patterns as  stagnation of qi and yin deficiency.

For treatment acupuncture was selected. The patient reported great improvements being made in all three treatments. After these treatments the patient decided to have acupuncture on a regular basis to prevent the onset of symptoms and maintain a good quality of life.

arthrosis treatment with acupuncture

ABSTRACT

Female patient, 78 years old, turned to acupuncture treatments due to the presence of pain in the wrist and base of the thumb caused by the presence of arthrosis. The patient reported the existence of this complaint for several years which hindered movement of the thumb.

Alongside the patient had a complicated medical history but that was not part of their treatment priorities. As such, the treatment was directed to the chief complaint. Although it was developed interrogation was not done traditional Chinese diagnosis.

The acupuncture treatment was used and attention was given to the use of ashi points and selection of points according with the nervous system. In all, three acupuncture treatments were necessary, and at the end of these treatments, the patient referred the total disappearance of symptoms.

Acupuncture treatment for back pain

ABSTRACT

Female patient, between 60-65 years, turned to acupuncture treatments due to the presence of back pain that had existed since the age of 20. Massage relieved the pain temporarily. Before had Japanese acupuncture which relieved the pain enough, allowing three months without pain.

The pain was due to bad posture due to prolonged work. A semiotic analysis did not allow to conclude the existence of a clinical pattern associated with pain. Acupuncture treatment was selected with attention to local points of pain (ashi), selection of points according to the nervous system and in accordance with the theory of meridians.

The patient responded very well to treatment and required a total of 5 sessions of acupuncture to be without pain. Patient was advised to do some maintenance or return to acupuncture treatments if the pain returned to emerge.

Torticollis treated with acupuncture and osteopathy

ABSTRACT

Male patient with 54 years of age. He had pain and difficulty of movement in the head due to torticollis suffered three months earlier. Were recommended 20 sessions of physical therapy that the patient did with no success.

After 20 sessions of physical therapy the patient went to the Office of Sports Physiotherapy for consultations with the physiotherapist Ernesto Ferreira. Did osteopathic treatment and the patient improved greatly of pain symptoms presented and joint mobility. After that he was recommended acupuncture.

In consultation with acupuncture muscular tension was observed in sub-occipital muscles and trapezius. Was not performed traditional Chinese diagnosis and selection of points followed two criteria: points of agreement with the theory of meridians and points of agreement with the nervous system.

The patient responded positively to treatment and at the end of the third consultation was noted without significant symptoms.
