One of the phrases, much heard in the Portuguese world of TCM (Tradicional Chinese Medicine) is that Western medicine is symptomatic, ie, treats symptoms. Although not directly, this statement is linked to another very common belief in TCM: acupuncture therapists treat energy imbalances in the body. We regulate the body’s energies, since we have a more holistic view of the process of being human. It´s a holistic diagnosis.
What is important to bear in mind is that the experts in TCM do not simply treat the symptom of the patient. They treat something else that nobody knows very well how to express, but it must have something to do with the energy´s we like so much and so little known. I have shown in other articles, the validity of this speach of energy and how empty of meaning are the words which it is based. In this article I want to focus on other equally ridiculous assertion: Western medicine only treats symptoms while TCM treats something else. Read the rest of this entry »

On several occasions I expressed in the this blog, against the poor translation of certain terms in Chinese medicine as well as for other practices, such as feeling the Qi in acupuncture points. In fact I wrote to criticize this practice. In this article I intend to address the same problem but from another perspective. Basically, I believe that feeling the Qi in acupuncture points and meridians is nothing more than psychological conditioning and willingness to believe coupled with a pathological lack of informed skepticism.
We can split this article into 2 parts: (1) historical facts, and many actual facts, related to acupuncture meridians, which suggest that feelling Qi in acupuncture points is nothing more than psychological conditioning and (2) theories and designing experiments, using some informed skepticism, of some interest that I hope, demonstrate the psychological conditioning behind this practice.
First there are some historical facts of some relevance, that call into question this practice: Read the rest of this entry »
The article continues with the presentation by the author of this method and the type of research he has done:
“The research of Dr. Evaldo in acupuncture is in relation to breeding, flowering, fruiting, seed production and plant growth. He is searching now, ways to increase the resistance of plants to pests and diseases.
According to Dr. Evaldo, the positive energy (Yang) is responsible for the growth and formation of the crown of the plants. The negative energy (Yin) answered by the formation of fruit, flowers and seeds. Satisfactory results, therefore, depend on the distribution and the perfect balance of energy in all plant cells.[i]”
The second part of the text is nothing more than a quick analysis based on some possible meanings of Yin and Yang when applied to botanical and does not help us at all. In the first part of the text we can find the fraud well explained.
Thanks to the excellent work of the directors of fórumMTC, whom I congratulate, the community of Portuguese acupunctures not only won an extra space to communicate and still was rewarded with access to various scientific studies and a variety of world news on acupuncture.
This article is a criticism of one of these articles (and should not be seen as critical to fórumMTC). An article removed from the site Landscape Brazil which in turn will have been published in the journal Sitios&Jardins. This article talks about plant acupuncture. As I will demonstrate what is called plant acupuncture is no more than a mutilation of TCM concepts based on esoteric ideas and without any basis minimally substantiated. Let pass then to the article itself:
Is stated at the outset:
“The acupuncture is a science and, like all science, a complex thing. In any case, we could say that its basic principle is to find the balance between positive and negative poles of energy that is running in the living creatures[i] ”
