Cold nature and pungent flavor herbal prescriptions to release the exterior

Sang Ju Yin (decoction of mulberry leaf and chrysanthemum flower) was first described in the book Wen Bing Tiao Bian (Detailed Analysis of Seasonal Febrile Diseases). Its actions are: expel wind and heat, disperse lung qi to relieve cough. Consists of eight drugs.[I] [ii] [iii].

Yin Qiao San (Powder of Lonicera – Honeysuckle – and forsythia) described in the book Wen Bing Tiao Bian (Detailed Analysis of Seasonal Febrile Diseases) is actions are releasing the exterior and induce sweating, eliminate heat and toxins. It consists of nine drugs.[Iv] [v], [vi].

Sang Xing Tang (Decoction of mulberry leaves and almond) was first described in the book of Wen Bing Tiao Bian (Detailed Analysis of Seasonal Febrile Diseases) and its functions consist in dispersing heat and dryness to disperse lung qi, moistening the lung to relieve cough. It consists of seven drugs [vii] [viii].

Ma Huang Gan Cao Ren Xin Shi Gao Tang (Decoction of Ephedra, almond, licorice and gypsum) was first described in the Shang Han Lun book (Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases) and has functions as eliminating heat of the lung and relieve cough and asthma. It as four drugs in it´s constitution. [Ix].

Chai Ge Jie Ji Tang (Decoction of Bupleurum and Kudzu to release the muscle) described in the Shang Han Liu Shu book, consists of eight drug and its functions are: expel pathogenic factors outside the muscle and skin and remove heat [x] [xi ].

Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang (Decoction of Ephedra-Prunus-Gypsum-glycyrrhiza) [xii] has the actions to eliminate lung heat, disperse lung qi to relieve cough and asthma. Can be used to treat wind-heat or wind-cold that turns into wind-heat [xiii]. It consists of four drugs.

Shen Ma Ge Gen Tang (Decoction of Cimicifuga and Kudzu) [xiv] is a prescription with three main functions: calm itching, release the exterior and promoting the eruption of skin rashes. It consists of four drugs [xv].

Zhu Ye Liu Bang Tang (Decoction lopateri-tamarix-arctii) [xvi] is a patented formula that releases the exterior and promotes the skin rash, regulates lung and stomach.

Zheng Yin Chai Hu (correct form) described in the book Jin Yue Quan Shu (AD 1624) is to release the exterior and to harmonize the yin qi (nutritious qi). It consists of six drugs [xvii].
